A huge iceberg broke off the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica on Friday, located some distance away from a British scientific outpost, according to British Antarctic Survey (BAS).

According to reports, the huge iceberg extends about 490 square miles (1270 square kilometers) which is estimated to be bigger than New York City in U.S. and broke free in a process called calving, according to a statement from BAS.

The aerial view of the video taken in mid-February shows the North Rift stretching as far as the eye can see.
