Josephine Okereke, the widow of the late newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, who lost his life after a stray bullet fired by one of the security aides of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has expressed shock after the late husband’s family demanded N500 million compensation from Gbajabiamila.

News Wheel Nigeria had earlier reported that the family via a letter written by renowned lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), asked Gbajabiamila to pay them a compensation of N500 million within seven days or face legal action. Read here.

However, Josephine Okereke, in an interview with newsmen today November 26, stated that she was unaware about the demand for compensation. She noted that Gbajabiamila has already promised to take care of the needs of the family, especially the education of their children.

According to her statement, she was surprised by the family’s demand and is not interested in anything that will jeopardize the promise already made to care for her two children.

“All I want now is that the person that killed my husband to face justice, he was the bread winner of the family and he just secured a job with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment,” Josephine said.
