INEC Chairman: Edo & Ondo guber election voters must wear face mask to polling units

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had said according to the News Agency of Nigeria reports that voters for the Edo and Ondo gubernatorial elections must wear their face masks to their polling units or be prevented from voting.

The chairman stated this at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) briefing on COVID-19 on yesterday in Abuja.

The Edo and Ondo states gubernatorial elections are slated to hold on 19th September and 10th October, 2020 respectively.

However, the INEC chairman explained that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had become necessary to wear a face mask. “It must not be a medical mask but any material that could be used to cover the nose and mouth”, he said.

During the briefing in Abuja, he noted that the measures like physical distancing of about two meters would be applied, while hand sanitizers would also be made available.

He also cautioned voters to abstain from touching the surfaces and leaning on walls at the voting centres.

The commission according to the INEC Chairman, ten points voters video conduct have been produced and distributed in the two states.
