Ozoro youth shot dead by police in a protest

Ozoro youth killed in a protest in Delta state on Monday, August 3. The incident happened after a staged protest against incessant harassment by the Nigerian Police in the community.

The protest which was intended to be peaceful later took a dive as it turned violent and in the process, a police officer allegedly opened fire on the protesters. A bullet hit one of the protesting youth and he died instantly.

The Ozoro youth was among the others who gathered at the popular Alla Square in preparation for a planned protest against alleged police intimidation and harassment when the victim was shot.

A source from the Delta State police command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said an investigation has commenced to ascertain what truly led to the man’s death.
