Rivers state Governor Wike has canceled the planned lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor LGAs.
He revealed the cancellation in a series of tweets. According to him, “The Planned total lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor local government areas is hereby cancelled. However, residents need to take full responsibility and adhere to guidelines from government agencies. Land boarders, Open markets and bars are to remain shut”.
Recall that the lockdown in Rivers state spanned lots of controversies over the period of the lockdown. Many have nicknamed Governor Wike as a tyrant who is dividing the people of Rivers instead of uniting them.
Wike has ordered all markets, clubs, cinemas, border points to remain closed. Also, social gatherings such as burials, weddings and large crowds are to remain banned.
However, religious places are allowed to function but must strictly follow guidelines of the Covid-19.
